This is an incredibly rare, authentic 1950s Jantzen Swimwear retail department store display mannequin. It features a headless, modern sculpted plaster/fiberglass female torso form manufactured by the legendary Wolf & Vine, Inc. Displays out of Los Angeles, California.
The mannequin retains its original "Shaparee" trademark decal on the lower right backside hip. It is presented on its original glass riser stand, which showcases a built-in vintage advertising banner featuring the iconic Jantzen logo, the famous red diving girl graphics, and the legendary slogan: "Just wear a smile and a Jantzen."
Condition Details
- Torso Form: Structural integrity is good with beautiful vintage texture. This appears to be a type of paper mache with an elegant stone-like texture. It is lightweight and easy to move. There is visible age-related surface crazing, minor scuffs, and a notable area of coating chipping on the top left shoulder ridge exposing the inner material and some other minor imperfections which should be expected for an authentic piece that is around 80 years old.
- Glass Display Stand: Present, complete and functional. The gold-tone metal support legs have a natural aged patina. The text on the advertising insert shows some vintage texturing and light age lines but remains completely legible. It is screened on the underside of the glass and some lifting is present.
- Authenticity Marks: Includes the paper manufacturer label on the wooden underside pivot connector (Wolf & Vine Inc. 225 So. Los Angeles St.) and the gold/green adhesive Shaparee emblem on the hip.
